EK dressuur - Justin Verboomen is na Europese titels eerste Belgische nummer een van de wereld

Met 1.925 punten wipte de 38-jarige Verboomen over de Britse Charlotte Fry (1.894) en de Duitse Isabell Werth (1.867). Larissa Pauluis, met Flambeau elfde (special) en veertiende (freestyle) in Crozet, moest een plaatsje prijsgeven op de ranking en is nu zeventiende. Domien Michiels zakte van 31 naar 36.

Op de FEI-ranking jumping is Belgisch kampioen Gilles Thomas, leider in de Global Champions Tour, van de negentiende naar de zesde plaats opgeklommen. Abdel Saïd (13e), Gregory Wathelet (24e), Nicola Philippaerts (33e) en Pieter Devos (50e) zijn de andere Belgen in de top vijftig. De Amerikaan Kent Farrington voert de ranking aan. De Brit Ben Maher en de Duitse olympische kampioen Christian Kukuk zijn de nummers twee en drie van de wereld. Met de veertienjarige hengst Bond Jamesbond vormt Wathelet de op twee na beste combinatie, na de Fransen Julien Epaillard met Donatello en Nina Mallevaey met Dynastie. Thibeau Spits is nummer drie van de wereld bij de U25, na Mallevaey en de Mexicaan Carlos Hank Guerreiro.

Championnats du monde de boxe - Oshin Derieuw passe le 1er tour, 1re boxeuse belge à remporter un combat aux Mondiaux

Oshin Derieuw a remporté son premier combat aux championnats du monde de boxe, vendredi à Liverpool, en Angleterre, dans la catégorie des -65kg. La Flandrienne, 38 ans, a battu l'Algérienne Ichrak Chaib 4 à 1 et devient selon la ligue flamande de boxe la première boxeuse belge à remporter un combat dans un championnat du monde.
