La Liga - Marcelino neemt met kwalificatie voor Champions League afscheid van Villarreal

Villarreal won afgelopen weekend met 5-1 van Levante en verzekerde zich daarmee van een ticket voor de League Phase van de Champions League. Vier speeldagen voor het einde van de competitie kan El Submarino Amarillo (De Gele Duikboot) niet meer uit de top vier vallen.

Marcelino keerde eind 2023 terug naar Villarreal, de club die hij eerder had getraind tussen 2013 en 2016. De voorbije twee seizoenen sloot het team de Spaanse competitie af als achtste en vijfde. Dat leverde vorig seizoen ook een ticket voor de League Phase van de Champions League op. Daarin sprokkelde Villarreal in de voorbije campagne amper 1 punt in acht wedstrijden.
