Primeira Liga - Nicolas Otamendi keert na zes seizoenen bij Benfica terug naar Argentinië

Otamendi maakte eind september 2020 de overstap van Manchester City naar Benfica en speelde in totaal 281 matchen voor de club uit Lissabon. De beenharde verdediger werd in zijn eerste seizoen al aanvoerder van de Adelaars, met wie een landstitel (2023), een ligabeker (2025) en twee supercups (2024 en 2026) won in Portugal. Eerder speelde hij in Europa ook al voor aartsrivaal FC Porto en Valencia.

Otamendi verzamelde ook al 130 caps voor de Argentijnse nationale ploeg en mag zich volgende maand opmaken voor zijn vierde Wereldbeker. Vier jaar geleden miste hij op het gewonnen WK in Qatar geen enkele minuut.
